Community and Involvement
At SSG Sustainable Living, we believe that ending homelessness isn't just about providing shelter, it's about rebuilding lives through connection, purpose, and community.
We know that long-term housing success depends on more than a roof overhead. We believe people are best supported when they feel heard, valued, and part of something positive. That's why we place a strong focus on community integration and involvement, helping residents build meaningful relationships, develop confidence and access opportunities that lead to independence and stability.
Resident Involvement
We actively involve residents in shaping the services they live in. Through regular feedback, meetings, and consultation, residents have opportunities to share their views, influence decisions, and help improve how our services are delivered.
This collaborative approach ensures our support remains responsive, respectful, and grounded in lived experience, while empowering residents to have a voice and take ownership of their journey.
Activities and Wellbeing
Residents take part in activities designed to improve wellbeing, confidence, and independence. These include practical skills workshops that support tenancy readiness, alongside creative, physical, and social activities that promote positive routines and personal development.
Activities provide opportunities to learn, connect with others, and rebuild self-esteem, supporting both emotional wellbeing and preparation for independent living.
Community Integration
We support residents to reconnect with their local communities and build meaningful social networks beyond supported accommodation. This includes linking people to community groups, volunteering opportunities, and local services that support positive routines, confidence, and independence.
We also support residents to develop the skills and understanding needed to be good neighbours and active members of their communities, promoting respectful community living and positive relationships.
Activities in Action
A twice-weekly group activity where residents care for outdoor spaces together. Gardening supports mental wellbeing, builds routine and confidence, and teaches practical skills residents can carry into their own tenancies.
Residents work together to plan meals, shop on a budget, and cook from scratch. The sessions build life skills, teamwork, and confidence, while creating a strong sense of community and pride.
An inclusive event celebrating residents' creativity and individuality. Performing in a supportive environment helps build self-esteem, confidence, and positive social connections.
Voices from Our Community
“When I spend all day inside my room it causes me to feel stressed, and the gardening club helps me to alleviate that. I enjoy making friends and memories at the club and seeing my friends every time we go together. It helps me to stay fit, active and healthy. It also reminds me of home, as I used to be a farmer in Sudan.”
“I think the gardening is good to participate, get fresh air and talk to people. I enjoy caring for and seeing the flowers and plants grow, and it gives me ideas for the future when I have my own home and garden. It gives me those skills.”
“It is really heartwarming to see the enthusiasm they show and how they've transformed what were once barren and untidy spaces into colourful flowerbeds and vegetable gardens.”
Volunteering & Getting Involved
The wider community plays an important role in our work. By sharing time, skills, and experience, individuals and organisations can help residents build confidence, independence, and essential life skills.
